At Oakfield, we strive to create a warm and welcoming ‘family’ atmosphere for our children and their parents/carers and we are proud of our open door policy. Parents/carers can contact school via telephone, email, through their child’s planner or by coming into the office and speaking to Mrs Boyle, our administrative assistant. We also have an excellent Pastoral Team, Mrs Worthington and Mrs Goodman, and they are often available to speak to or meet with parents/carers during the school day.
At the beginning of the school year, parents/carers are invited to attend an informal ‘Meet the Teacher’ drop-in session on an evening after school. This gives parents/carers a chance to ‘put a face to a name’ and ask any questions that they may have about their child’s new class.
In October and March, all parent/carers of pupils in Years 1 to 6 are invited to attend a Parents’ Evening to discuss their child’s progress and attainment. Parents/carers of pupils in Reception and Nursery are invited to attend ‘Stay and Play’ throughout the year and opportunities to discuss progress and attainment are given during these sessions.
At the end of the Autumn Term, parent/carers are given a brief written report on their child’s progress. Targets for English and Maths are also included.
At the end of the Summer Term, parents/carers are given an end of year report and an opportunity to discuss this with their child’s teacher.
We communicate with parents/carers in a variety of ways. These include:
- Meetings and telephone conversations with parents/carers
- Information on our website
- Newsletters and class letters
- Special assemblies
- Transition meetings
- Home visits
- School events
We welcome all feedback from parents/carers and this can be given in any number of ways, from verbal feedback to any member of staff to written feedback to the headteacher or Chair of Governors. The Governing Body also distribute a parent questionnaire at the Parents’ Evening in March and parents/carers are encouraged to complete it and return it to school. Feedback can also be given via the Governor pages on the school website or on Parent View on the OFSTED website.
